My boys are all grown up *sniffle* Logan, Logan, Logan, you keep everything interesting. It was very nice getting to see everyone as adults, especially if you've read the Fallen Crest series and Logan Kade.So this book is about Nate, as in the title (of course). He was Mason's (Fallen Crest) and Logan's best friend when they were teenagers. Anyway, he is an investor in Seattle who is being stalked for a couple weeks. After it becomes so obvious that the stalker isn't even trying to hide (he's acting like a tween with her first ever crush), Nate confronts this dude and discovers he is a private investigator, and is informed that "my [the PI's] client will be in touch." Sounds ominous. At this point, I'm totally thinking who could this client be?A couple weeks pass and a woman named Quincey (very odd name for a woman, but not a big deal) walks into a bar to meet with Nate, where she proceeds to throw some shocking news at him - he has a daughter, the mother has passed away, Q is her legal guardian, and could he pretty please sign all his parental rights away. Wow, talk about shock. Nate reacts pretty well under the circumstances (aka the bus) Q throws him under, and immediately asks what his daughter's name is and demands to meet her. For that, the dude definitely has my respect.The story was great. It had a few issues and wasn't as properly fleshed out as I expected, though. Firstly, Nate and Quincey are gender neutral names, and unless you're going into it with previous knowledge of exactly who Nate is or names such as these don't bother you, then you might want to call Quincey "Q" in your head. This kind of thing often irritates me, but I knew Nate, so separating the characters was easier.Secondly, there was barely any chemistry between the characters. It felt more like a friends situation at first then a friends with benefits situation. There was little to no monologue or dialogue that suggested Nate thought of Q as much more than his daughter's mom. No romantic thoughts or thoughts of a future together, like "I can see us getting married, having children, growing old together, etc." Instead, it was more like, "you're a wonderful dancer, we'll attend your show to support you, of course I'll be there when you confront [insert hostile person], etc."Other things that weren't quite explained and that bothered me is that ballet dancing is a competitive industry. I highly doubt someone as old as Quincey would still be chosen for major leads. Also, why is Nate living in Seattle? He's an investor, had no family, friends, or romantic entanglements there so why did he not move closer to his friends at least? None of this was properly explained. First let me say this was a cute read. That being said there is no way this book was written by Tijan. Its very PG and there wasn't much chemistry between the characters. The story wasn't very deep, usually you get taken somewhere else but I had a hard time staying interested. Definitely worth reading, just don't have any Tijan expectations.
